A finished room · Playroom
The Nutcracker room
A world full of wonder and depth. A playroom built around the ballet, from a bare building site to a world of its own.
Inspired by The Nutcracker, a room takes shape where colour, drama and imagination come together. Warm, deep tones move through the space and give the walls an almost theatrical layering.
A ruby-red fireplace forms the heart of the room. A rug of stars opens the space to play and imagination. A classic bookcase keeps small worlds safe, in stories and objects that are discovered again and again.
From building site to world
This is where it started: bare walls, a stripped floor and a fireplace waiting for a story. The same corner today.
What makes it work
- In the old fireplace: a ruby red puppet theatre.
- The star rug marks the play spot in front of the hearth.
- The bookcase, filled with stories and objects from the theme.
- Striped walls in warm candlelight tones, so the deep colour reads as theatre instead of darkness
- A herringbone floor and a toddler bed in the corner, ready to grow into a bedroom
Nothing here is accidental
Nothing here is accidental. Every detail is an anchor in a child’s memory, small in the moment, vast in the feeling.
The wooden horse on the mantel, the baskets in the bookcase, the red car on the floor: each one belongs to the story and each one has a place. That is the difference between decorating a room and designing a world.
Two worlds that really exist
No moodboard that stays a moodboard: these are rooms where a child falls asleep tonight.
How it works
From the first conversation to handover, every room follows the same four steps.
- I
Introduction
We meet over coffee, in person or online. We listen to who the child is and which world you have in mind. You send us the floor plan with the measurements, photos of the room and where the sockets and light points are.
- II
Design
You get the full plan: palette, materials, furniture and the layout of the room. You see exactly what is coming before anything is bought or built.
- III
Making
We source the furniture and objects, have the custom pieces made and tune everything to each other. You don’t have to hunt for anything.
- IV
Handover
We install the room completely and style it down to the last detail. The door opens and the room is ready to live in.

Common questions
Is this a playroom or a bedroom?
A playroom, with a toddler bed in the corner for naps. The fireplace, the rug of stars and the bookcase make it a room to play and read in, and it grows into a bedroom later.
Can we have a Nutcracker room too?
Yes, but it will be your own version. Every room starts with the child and the house, so the palette, the furniture and the details will differ. The Nutcracker is the story we build around, not a template.
What did a room like this cost?
Our design fee starts at €450 for a styling session and at €1,900 for a restyling with floor plan and item list. The furniture and finishes you buy yourself, at shop prices and without markup. The pricing page shows the usual interior budgets.
